About Kyle Eddings

His vision from the beginning has been to maintain quality and honesty above all else.

After studying physics at Northern Illinois University, Kyle moved to Houston, Texas to work for Versabar. Hired to gain an understanding of what would later be engineering, Kyle dawned the green hard hat and worked hands-on for each major department. Starting with testing rigging and understanding engineered lifts, then the weighing crew, and finally to special projects assisting the build of mechanical-hydraulic winch and chain-jack systems.

He eventually landed in the office designing hydraulic power packages, assisting with the builds of those packages, troubleshooting, and testing, and then following them offshore for pull-in operations.

After only a couple of years, Kyle was asked to assist in a novel design lift project in Saudi Arabia. After setting the two decks for Saudi Aramco, Kyle had the opportunity to leave hydraulic design and transition into a Marine role. Having no sailing experience, he was sent to STCW courses, Kongsberg DP Beginner, Advanced and Maintenance courses, ISM auditor, and even a Caterpillar Master Mechanic class – a full-on crash course in the maritime world.

He was pulled into the VB-10,000 heavy lift vessel project. Assisting throughout design and construction, he worked with USCG and ABS and the commissioning crews for the various vessel systems. Among others, he wrote the Fire & Safety Plan and Maintenance Manual for the vessel. He was present offshore for initial sea trials, and DP-Trials and sailed with the vessel for its first three years of lift seasons for onboard support.

Although not a licensed mariner, he still accrued DP time operating the DP system when the vessel was not performing a lift. The VB-10,000 was built for subsea salvage and decommissioning but was also involved in topside decommissioning. During topside activities, Kyle was onboard the vessel. However, for subsea decommissioning, Kyle would assist with the subsea hookup of the wire rope to pre-set hooks on the downed asset.

Having grown a desire to learn more about Dynamic Positioning Systems, Kyle left Versabar to work for the then Noble Denton. During this time, he was trained to write Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEAs) and Proving Trials and DP Operations Manuals. During his tenure, he saw many of the Hornbeck Offshore HOSMAX boats through their initial DP Proving Trials out of the shipyard.

Kyle was also involved in countless DP Trials of Drillships, semisubmersibles, and other supply vessels. Having gained experience at Noble Denton, Kyle moved on to take a position as Global DP Manager for Braemar Technical Services. He also worked closely with sister company Braemar Offshore, who introduced him to Marine Warranty Surveys from a stint in Thailand performing load-outs.

Kyle left Bramer in 2018 to start New Wave Offshore Energy.
